Tabs and workspace

Last updated Screenshots show Folora 0.2.0.

Each open document has its own tab and keeps its own cursor position and undo history.

Tabs

  • ⌘N creates a new document. Double-clicking an empty area of the tab bar also creates one.
  • Double-click a tab’s name to rename the file. The extension stays the same.
  • Drag tabs to change their order.
  • ⌘W closes a tab. If the document is not saved, Folora asks whether to save it first.
  • ⌃Tab switches to the next tab and ⌃⇧Tab to the previous tab.
  • ⌘⇧T, Reopen closed tab, brings back the most recently closed tab.
  • The tab’s context menu also has Close other tabs, Close Tabs to the Left, Close Tabs to the Right, Show in Finder and other items.

File tree

When you open a folder, the sidebar lists the .md, .markdown and .mdown files in it as a file tree. Other files are not shown. Each folder lists up to 200 items at a time; click Load more files to list the rest.

The file tree’s context menu has New folder, New document here, Rename, Delete, Copy path and Show in Finder. Drag a file to another folder to move it.

Session

Restore windows and tabs on startup in Settings is on by default. When Folora restarts, it brings back the previous windows and tabs, and each tab’s mode, cursor and scroll position. Undo history is not kept.

Notes

  • After you delete an item, the notification bar shows “Moved “Notes.md” to the Trash”. Click Undo within 8 seconds to cancel; the item is moved to the Trash only after 8 seconds.
  • After you move a file, relative paths that no longer work are not updated automatically. The notification bar shows how many there are.
