Heading outline

Outline lists the H1 to H6 headings of the current document by level.

  1. Open the sidebar and choose Outline.
  2. Click a heading. The cursor moves to that heading and the editor scrolls to it.

Click ▸ or ▾ before a heading to collapse or expand its section. Right-click the outline to choose Expand all or Collapse all. The collapsed state is kept with the session. If the document has no headings, the outline shows “Headings appear here.”

Document navigation strip

The Document navigation strip is on the right side of the editor in writing view and marks the positions of headings, tables, images and code blocks with short lines. It appears only when the document is about 2.5 screens long or more and has 4 or more such items. Hold the pointer over a line to see the opening text at that position; click to jump there. Document navigation strip in Settings is on by default and can be turned off.

Table of contents

Type [toc] on a line by itself in the document, and writing view shows a table of contents made from the headings at that position.

Notes

  • Files over 10 MiB do not get an outline.
